Re-Electing Sheriff Kevin McMahill is the Right Choice for Clark County

As we look ahead to the next election cycle for Clark County Sheriff, one name stands out for continued leadership: Kevin McMahill. Serving as the Sheriff of Clark County and head of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) since January 2023, McMahill has built a strong record of results that deserves our support for a second term.

McMahill’s career in law enforcement spans over three decades with LVMPD, starting as a patrol officer in 1990 after serving in the United States Army. He rose steadily through the ranks—sergeant, lieutenant, captain, deputy chief, assistant sheriff, and undersheriff—before being elected sheriff. This depth of experience, including guiding the department through major challenges like the 1 October tragedy and civil unrest in 2020, has prepared him to lead effectively in one of the nation’s most dynamic and high-profile communities.

During his first term, Sheriff McMahill delivered on the key promises he made to voters four years ago:

  • Caring for our officers
  • Fighting crime like never before
  • Making the department the most innovative in the country

As he states on his campaign website: “Four years ago, I made you three key promises… We delivered. Now, let’s protect our future, make our streets even safer, and set a new standard to make Las Vegas the safest community in the world.”

Under his leadership, LVMPD has seen impressive progress. Crime reductions include a double-digit drop overall, with a notable 35% reduction in homicides year-to-date in recent reports, alongside a high solve rate for serious crimes. The department has embraced cutting-edge technology described as a “game changer” for policing in Las Vegas, improving efficiency and safety. Efforts have also focused on reducing traffic fatalities, officer shootings, and combating issues like human trafficking through strong inter-agency collaboration—especially evident during major events like Super Bowl LVIII.

These achievements reflect steady, proven leadership that prioritizes both public safety and the well-being of the officers who serve our community.

I, Kourtney Wagner, had the pleasure of supporting Sheriff McMahill during his last election, and I’ve continued to follow his work closely. He’s seemed like a cool family guy that really cares—someone who balances strong professional dedication with genuine concern for the people he serves and those who work alongside him. In a role that demands tough decisions and long hours, that personal touch and commitment to family values make him relatable and trustworthy.

As Clark County continues to grow and face unique challenges as the entertainment capital of the world, we need experienced, innovative leadership that has already proven it can deliver results. Re-electing Kevin McMahill means building on the momentum toward safer streets, healthier officer morale, and a brighter future for Southern Nevada.
