Meet Douglas Candido: A Lifelong Las Vegan Running for Nevada Assembly District 6

Nevada’s working families deserve representatives who truly understand their daily struggles—from skyrocketing housing costs to stagnant wages and access to quality healthcare. Enter Douglas Candido, a union carpenter and lifelong resident of Las Vegas, who has announced his candidacy for Nevada State Assembly District 6. As a fresh voice rooted in the community, Candido brings a working-class perspective shaped by personal experience and hands-on advocacy.

A Story of Hard Work and Resilience

Born at Sunrise Hospital to immigrant parents from Mexico and El Salvador, Douglas Candido grew up in a household where hard work and sacrifice were everyday realities. His parents worked as dishwashers and housekeepers, often struggling to make ends meet—a story familiar to many Southern Nevada families.

Candido started working at age 16, moved out on his own at 18, and has navigated the challenges of rising living costs firsthand. He pursued creative passions in photography, graphic design, and mixed-media art, while also attempting a nursing degree before stepping away due to financial pressures.

A turning point came after a serious motorcycle accident, followed by the onset of COVID-19, which exposed gaps in healthcare coverage and economic support. These experiences propelled him into community advocacy. As a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local 1977, Candido has served as a job site steward, mentored young workers, supported workforce training programs, and participated in food distributions, student outreach, and home-building projects.

He was even named Apprentice of the Year for his dedication. In his own words: “These experiences didn’t just shape my perspective—they fuel my determination to fight for working families who know what it means to struggle, work hard, and never give up.”

Outside of work and advocacy, Candido enjoys collecting records, spending time with his nephews, and cheering on the Golden Knights and Raiders.

Why He’s Running: Putting Working People First

Candido is running because too many families in District 6 are working harder than ever but still falling behind. He believes government should prioritize working people, not just the well-connected, by creating real opportunities and investing in future generations.

His key priorities include:

  • Expanding workforce housing to ensure families aren’t forced to choose between rent and groceries.
  • Diversifying Nevada’s economy to create stable, good-paying jobs beyond tourism.
  • Enhancing community safety through smart, community-focused solutions.

“I know the challenges in Assembly District 6 because I’ve lived them,” Candido says. “I’m not running to play politics. I’m running to work. To listen. And to help build a future where hard work is respected, and opportunity is within reach for everyone.”

A Candidate Committed to Action

Douglas Candido represents the kind of grassroots leadership Nevada needs—someone who has built things with his hands, advocated for his neighbors, and refuses to accept the status quo. As the 2026 election cycle heats up, he’s a candidate worth watching for those who want a stronger voice for working families in Carson City.
